Preschool Curriculum
At The Seedling School, your child will be given opportunities to explore, create and learn in a fun, safe and nurturing environment. We believe children are being prepared for their next level of education and for future leadership through teacher- directed, hands-on experiences and free-choice activities.
Our thematic curriculum promotes high quality learning through engaging topics, and it is carefully sequenced to provide a clear progression of skills and knowledge for each of our 7 classrooms.
What does that look like for my child in the classroom?
In each classroom, learning centers are provided along with circle time, songs and rhymes, class jobs. Teachers plan specific activities to help children develop fine and gross motor skills which are essential to each stage of their academic and physical development. Open ended questions are asked to start the children’s critical thinking process. Children are given opportunities to refine their science, math and pre-reading skills with a variety of hands-on activities. They are guided toward becoming more independent, and are taught good hygiene routines and healthy eating habits.
Each classroom visits the Betty Webb Library at Foothill Country Day School to check out books. They enjoy music class, also taught by a Foothill teacher, and they participate in Community Meetings. Because we offer a full-day program, there is plenty of time or free play, gardening, and large motor development activities. Art is presented as a form of self-expression and a vital part of child development.
We welcome you to explore the topics within our curriculum by clicking on the blue tabs below. Check out a Day in the Life of the Seedling School here.
Your child's experience as part of The Seedling School:
The Seedling School functions as a school within a school: we are a division of Foothill Country Day School. Students and parents interact frequently with those in other Seedling classrooms in Seedling-wide events. We have Community Meetings together, enjoy lunch and after school enrichment classes together. We also have a wide array of special events at The Seedling School such as the petty zoo, first responder visits, Polar Express, Captain Carl's marine biology touch tanks, Week of the Young Child, Bubblemania, Reptile Show, Teddy Bear Picnic, and the Holiday Sing. We also do Seeding-specific community service, such as visits to San Antonio Gardens (across the street from our school).
Your child's experience as art of part of Foothill Country Day School:
Seedling students joyfully visit the "big kids campus" often for learning in the library, art studio and science labs. As part of the Foothill community, your child will also participate in school-wide events such as International Days, emergency drills, community service projects, and Field Day & Art Walk. Parents are welcome to enjoy Foothill's parent education events, and Foothill's fundraising efforts, such as the Spring Gala, benefit Seedling.
