Learning for Future Leaders
Our Philosophy
The Seedling School is a safe, nurturing and enriching environment for children ages 2 - 5. As part of Foothill Country Day School, we envision that our students will some day be leaders, and we believe any child can learn leadership skills. But first, they have to feel safe and confident in themselves. Leaders love to learn.
By recognizing different learning styles, we foster a love of learning through a balance of developmentally appropriate curriculum and creative play. We seek to stimulate and encourage diversity of thought among children. In partnership with each family, The Seedling School strives to develop character by teaching social skills, citizenship, and moral values, all qualities of leadership that our students will one day need. The Seedling School provides children of all cultures an opportunity to learn and play together.
Our Program
Each classroom of the 7 classrooms are arranged with many interest centers. At this age, children learn best by having direct sensory encounters with the world as well as through teacher-directed activities. Our program includes art, literature, music and movement, language development, math and scientific learning opportunities.
Each child’s individual needs are continually assessed regarding social, cognitive, emotional and physical needs. Children are guided throughout the day with a balanced curriculum of activities to enhance specific skills and subjects. The program is designed for all children to experience success and to acquire a solid base of experiences that are essential for later learning.
The Transitional Kindergarten (TK) classroom prepares our students for their entry into Kindergarten, and it is part of a two-year kindergarten experience at Foothill Country Day School. As a "bridge" to elementary school, TK students attend school for a full day, and experience additional areas of social interaction, group orientation and academic preparation through age-specific lesson plans. Age-eligible prospective TK families should make sure to apply through Foothill County Day School's admission process in the spring.
