We believe our students will become leaders in whatever path they choose. Of course, that means they will leave our "nest" and head to a new destination school. It is our goal that each of our students will have their choice of high schools and colleges, where they are confident they will succeed.
Culture
Foothill is part of a culture that values education. We proudly make our home in the community of Claremont, the "Land of Trees and PhDs". We prefer a more recent moniker bestowed on us: "ABCs to PhDs".
No matter what you call it, our children are surrounded by people who love learning! That is priceless!
Intention
Foothill is intentional about preparing our students for their future and they choices they will make. Starting in the fall of 7th grade, our Foothill families are invited to High School Admissions Night, presented by Upper School Director, Shane Guilbert-Neal. At this event, parents and students are introduced to the types of high schools available (boarding, public, parochial, private, performing arts schools, international schools), the latest trends in admissions, and how best to find a good fit for their child. We also host experts such as Ten Schools Admission Organization (pictured), who talk to our students about finding the right school for them.
Each fall, high schools from around the country visit our campus to recruit our students. Schools present their school in 30 minute info meetings for families where questions are welcomed. Alumni frequently return to campus, often stopping by to share their high school and college experiences.
Then, each Upper School student is individually counseled and guided through the application process for several schools of their choice, from applications to teacher recommendations to interview prep. This is a gentle process where our goal is for students to feel supported by their teachers, parents, advisors, and administrators.
