Foothill's Debate Team attend the first Inland Valley Debate League tourament for the school year in November. Foothill had our best showing ever -- the best in our history.
Not only did Max M. (8th) win the gavel (the award for the best speaker in the entire tournament of 131 competitors), but our team of Dorothy M., Luke W., and Saira B.(all 8th) made it to the championship round and debated Suzanne Middle School team in front of 150 viewers. FCDS won! That means we took to the top two trophies in the tournament.
We are even more proud of the students who were debating for the first time ever, especially under challenging technological circumstances.
Topics this tournamet included zoos, private prisons, electric cars, and the statehood of Washington D.C.
Kudos to coaches Zareen Ahmed and Kyle Brodie assisted by student team captains Saira B., Max M. and Kathy D. We also had three alumni return to judge at this tournament on behalf of FCDS: Bridget Brodie (`19) , Jonathan Rosales-Cardenas (`20) and Mirabel Raphael (`20).
