Upper School Advisory Program

At Foothill Country Day School, our middle school advisory program creates a space where students feel supported, valued, and connected. Small groups of 8-10 peers, guided by a teacher advisor, provide a foundation for building meaningful relationships and confidently navigating the challenges of adolescence.

Students develop self-awareness, empathy, and interpersonal skills through discussions, collaborative activities, and lessons on topics like goal setting, fact-checking social media claims, and forgiveness. For example, students might participate in a guided conversation about offering a sincere apology or engage in a team challenge to build the tallest tower, followed by a reflective discussion on the importance of integrity and inclusivity in everyday interactions at school. Leadership skills are nurtured as students participate in group activities, practice effective communication, and learn to guide and support their peers.

Our advisory program balances thoughtful reflection with moments of joy and play, recognizing the vital role of fun in growing up. Activities like advisory games and reflective discussions strengthen friendships, boost confidence, and encourage personal growth. By blending connection, reflection, and play, the program helps students thrive academically, socially, and emotionally, preparing them to become thoughtful leaders.
