Celebrating Cultures

It is in our DNA, literally!

We value the diverse richness of our faculty, staff, and student body.

Unique in the Inland Empire, Foothill is neither a public school where religion is not discussed, nor is it a faith-based school.  We recognize the importance of sharing our traditions, holidays, and celebrations related to particular faiths and cultures.  Of course we want everyone at our school to feel valued and included. But it is also important for our future leaders, our students, to have gain understanding and a basic knowledge of world faith. Good leaders listen and learn about the experiences of others, and they find common ground.

Every faith and culture is respected and celebrated on our campus. If you and your child are excited to learn about new cultures, this may be the place for you.

How do we foster that inclusive environment?

  • International Days
This multi-day event takes place every other year (next is in 2025). Experts come to campus to discuss their books and perform, but the real treasure is in our families. Parents sign up to make videos about their traditions or present to classes about their family stories. Students research and create projects, and food from around the world is shared.

  • Woven Into the Curriculum
Our teachers make a concerted effort to include many cultural events and perspectives as part of the regular literature and projects in the classroom. Our Spanish classes in particular focus not only on language, but on the historical events, food and culture of Spanish-speaking countries.

  • Cultural Community Celebrations
Our students attend Community Meetings daily. Some of these meetings are designated as Cultural Community Presentations. At these morning meetings, Foothill families take the lead and share their own holidays with our students. They create a Powerpoint presentation to educate our students about the holiday, dress in cultural clothing, read books, and perform or share a tradition.

The schedule rotates each year, but for the 2024-2025 school year, these were the holidays that we learned about:

    Chuseok
    Rosh Hashanah/Yom Kippur
    Diwali
    Dia de los Muertos
    Christmas
    Hanukkah
    Kwanzaa
    Lunar New Year
    Black History Month
    Ramadan
    Holi
    Eid
    Passover
    Easter
