Parent Education Speakers
Every year, Foothill Country Day School hosts speakers who share their expertise and provide important insights on a variety of topics of interest to parents of K-8 students. Previous speakers have included psychologist and author Dr. Wendy Mogel, author of The Blessing of a Skinned Knee and The Blessing of a B Minus, and Dr. Robin Berman, a psychiatrist and author, who shared her book Permission to Parent with the audience, and Dr. Jean Twenge, author of iGen:Why Today's Super-Connected Kids are Growing Up Less Rebellious, More Tolerant, Less Happy--and Completely Unprepared for Adulthood, and Jen Cote, M.A., Program Director of ChallengeSuccess, a program out of Stanford University's Graduate School of Education. This year we began with a webinar from Dr. Tina Bryson of the Center for Connection presenting "Answers to Your Most Pressing Questions About Parenting through the Pandemic".
In January and February we are proud to present Dr. Devorah Heitner, author of Screenwise: Helping Kids Thrive in Their Digital World. Her work has been featured in the New York Times, Washington Post, and the Wall Street Journal. Dr. Heitner holds a PhD in Media/Technology & Society from Northwestern University and has taught at DePaul and Northwestern. She is delighted to be raising her own digital native. There are two webinars offered, catered to two age groups:
