Technology Integration
-
Technology is interwoven throughout the curriculum at Foothill Country Day School. In the Lower School, a dedicated technology integration specialist works with teachers and students in grades K-5. Grades K-2 integrate the use of iPads into many different content areas throughout the school year. Each student in grades 1-2 is assigned their own iPad to use at school. In grades 3-5, Chromebooks are utilized to enhance student learning. Each student in grades 3-5 is assigned their own Chromebook laptop to use at school. Starting in 3rd grade, students begin to use Google Apps for Education within the classroom. Coding skills are taught starting in 1st grade. Students are also trained in keyboarding skills, especially within 4th and 5th grade. Throughout the Lower School technology curriculum, a strong emphasis is placed on making sure that students are developing the digital citizenship skills needed to navigate the ever-changing digital world.
In the Upper School (grades 6-8), students continue to utilize the skills they have learned in the earlier grades for many of their subject areas. Beginning in grade 6, the students have Microsoft Office 365 accounts, which includes a school email account. They continue to use their Google Apps for Education accounts to collaborate on projects for multiple subject areas using Google Classroom and our learning management system, Schoology. Students in grades 6-8 are each assigned their own MacBook laptop for use at school.
