Middle School attempts to help each student discover and develop his/her special talents, while at the same time refining the essential skills needed to function in a most challenging academic environment. The rigorous academic program is supplemented with physical education, a full fine arts curriculum, as well as integrated outdoor education trips. Major emphasis is placed upon effective and compassionate communication, consideration and tolerance of others, the development of teamwork skills, and the strengthening of one’s value system. The program is an extremely full and busy one supplemented by diversified chapel and assembly programs. The Middle School can be described as the “Bridge” years between the lower and upper grades. With an incredible cadre of academics and experiences behind them, students at this age are ready to move forward and develop their knowledge in all core subjects with higher order thinking and autonomy. The curriculum is intellectually rigorous and fast paced, and gives students plenty of opportunities to learn and practice time management, organization, and other study skills that will benefit them in Upper School and beyond. Each member of the Middle School faculty is not only an expert in his/her academic field, but is also aware of the unique intellectual, physical, social, and emotional needs of the early adolescent. This allows us to deliver a challenging curriculum in a manner that promotes maximum acquisition of the knowledge and skills necessary for academic success at Foothill Country Day School.
