Capturing Audience Smiles
We know what we expect from a Kindergarten Play: CUTE! At the FCDS Kindergarten Play on May 26th & 27th, CUTE was resplendent, and equaled by the amazing stage presence and smoothly executed performances from these young thespians.
“The Nightingale” demanded lengthy, challenging monologues for some students; tightly sequenced lines for all; commanding staging; and choral verse -- all charmingly mastered by the 29 Kindergartners. The elaborate costumes, all reflecting the splendor of ancient China, were collected by mothers Mrs. Tu and Mrs. Wang. The set was beautifully designed and prepared by a host of volunteer parents -- notably Mrs. Ferm (design lead) and Mr. Plunkett (lead builder). Credit goes as well to Mrs. Sego, communicator-in-chief. Congratulations are due to all those involved in this production: the many parent volunteers for set, costumes, and backstage assistance; the director-teachers Mrs. Alldredge, Mrs. Lopez, and Mr. Clark; technical director Mrs. Currier; sound/light techs Mr. Clark and Mrs. Currier; the live music scored & played by expert pianist Mrs. Donaldson; and... most importantly, the performers themselves!
Foothill Country Day School aims to instill in its students confidence and skill in public performance. Following a Kindergarten year filled with preparatory speaking and singing activities, it was evident throughout “The Nightingale” production that our youngest Foothill students have mastered the basics of stage prowess!
