Rays of sun pierced cooperative non-rain clouds as the First Annual Eleanor Pierson Golf Tournament teed off on October 18, 2010 at 10:30 AM, to great enjoyment by participants. Seventy-six golfers scrambled across Glendora Country Club fairways amidst laughter, camaraderie, and more-than-occasional exceptional shots. James Worthy, Lakers Hall of Fame Legend, golfed and was photographed with foursomes at the 10th hole; catered taco lunches hit the spot; and BWO volunteers swiftly accommodated needs and desires. At 4:15 PM sharp, a Helicopter Ball Drop climaxed the day on the course. A festive pasta-bar dinner followed, with luring, competitive silent and live auctions. The result: FUN!!!…. and over $100,000..... gained to support the Foothill Country Day School mission of providing exceptional educational experiences for its students.
The tournament proceeds will enhance ongoing FCDS programs and inaugurate a new Eleanor Pierson Scholarship Fund which will enable bright children without sufficient economic resources to engage in FCDS’ notable educational programs. Eleanor Pierson has been a member of the FCDS family since its inception in 1954.
The golf tournament initiated an impressive new effort by the Betty Webb Organization (BWO), a parent support group for FCDS, to sponsor an annual FCDS fundraising benefit. In past years, a formal dinner and auction in spring months served this purpose. The First Annual Eleanor Pierson Golf Tournament moved the fundraiser to fall, and shifted from formal to informal, day-long, active festivities.
