Admissions

Q: What are the required components of a student’s application for admission to FCDS?

Please review the following components based on your child's grade:
Kindergarten Application Process
First - Eighth Grade Application Process

Q: Where can I find the required inquiry and application forms?

The inquiry form for all interested families can be found here.
The link to the online application for the 2017-18 academic year can be found here.

Q: Does Foothill Country Day School (FCDS) accept applications from international students?

At this time, FCDS does not accept applications from international students and is not able to offer, process, or assist in the procurement of student visas (Form I-20).

Q: Can I apply for admission online?

All applications for admission to FCDS must be submitted online. Prospective families are asked to visit the admissions website as early as possible in order to become familiar with the application process, requirements, and timelines.

Q: Can interested families visit the school?

Absolutely! We invite and encourage all families interested in learning more about FCDS to call the Office of Admissions to schedule a time for a visit and tour.

The Office of Admission hosts a series of on-campus Admission Visit Day events throughout the year. Please refer to Key Dates for more information.

Q: How many new students enroll at FCDS each year?

The number of new students who apply and are admitted to FCDS annually vary, but on average, we enroll approximately 35 kindergarten students, and 2-3 new students in other grades. These numbers are approximate and are not a guarantee of the number of seats available to new students.

Q: How old should my child be to enter kindergarten at FCDS?

All applicants to our kindergarten program must be five years old by September 1 in the year in which they will begin school.

Q: What assessment exams are required of students applying for admission to FCDS?

All students who are applying for admission to FCDS must sit for an assessment exam. Students applying for admission to Kindergarten at FCDS must also complete an assessment through the educational consulting firm Integrated Learning Solutions (ILS). ILS provides comprehensive educational support and guidance to students, families and schools, and is Foothill Country Day School's partner in Kindergarten screening.  More information about kindergarten assessment will be provided to families interested in completing the application process.
Students applying to first grade must take the Admissions Assessment of Beginning Learners (AABL) test, created by the Educational Records Bureau (ERB).
Students applying to second through eighth grades must take the Independent School Entrance Exam (ISEE), created by ERB. Information on registering for either of these exams will be sent to families upon receipt of their child's completed application for admission.

Q: When will we receive notification of admissions decisions?

Notification letters for admission and enrollment for the 2018-19 school year will be mailed March 16, 2018.

Q: What does it mean to be on the waiting list?

A: FCDS often has more qualified applicants than open seats in each class. The waiting list consists of a small group of students for each grade who would be appropriate for FCDS but cannot be initially accepted. The waiting list for each grade is unranked; should space become available, all applicants for the space to be filled will be considered. Students are not admitted during the school year. The

Admission Office makes every effort to contact families on the waiting list who are eligible for consideration should changes occur.
